The people of Indonesia for so long have been known for its expertise and tradition
of planting coconut tree around the country. More than 3.8 million hectares of area
in Indonesia has been planted with coconut tree. Although the result of harvest
still far away from other country such as Philippines and India. Philippines only
has 3.2 million hectares of coconut plantation around the country but the country
has produced almost three times than Indonesia as per calculated per year due to
poor treatment, financial limitation and understanding of coconut palm plantation
and nursery.
This fact has motivated the company to move into this area in order to be able to
improve the condition of Indonesia coconut palm farmers around the country. In the
2008 the company has started building new coconut oil factory and also has started
coconut plantation in the Island of Buru, Moluccas Province Indonesia.
The agreement of more than 10,000 hectares land mostly is local traditional villagers
land is used in this plantation program for this year. The program is to work on
empty and unused land and to rejuvenate the old with very low yield of coconut tree
in the Moluccas province, specifically in the Buru Island. The company also has
targeted to plant more than 30,000 hectares coconut palm in the next 6 years and
surely in this case to work on joint venture with local villagers and government.
The company provides the best coconut seeds which has proven for its high yield
(almost triple) and early harvest (harvest begin at fourth year) compared to local
seeds which the harvest only start at tenth year and result in low yield. The new
seed has proven for its high yield and longer life (compared to hybrid seeds) that
every hectares the farmer will yield more than 4000 kg of copra yearly starting
at year 5th. Moreover with proper treatment, good land condition, good nursery and
irrigation system, it will push up the production almost double above year 7th.
The program also to make use of every aspects of coconut fruit, including the husk
which will be produced for fiber, the shell for carbon active, the juice for coconut
jelly and of course the meat which will be produced to obtain oil out of its.
The factory build in this island is cater for 3000 Metric Tons copra per month (1800
Metric Tons per month Crude Coconut Oil), 300 Metric Tons Coconut Fiber and 500
Metric Tons Activated Carbon. It is also expandable to 10,000 Metric Tons copra
per month (10,000 Metric Tons Crude Coconut Oil per month).
